In recent years he's made a series of appearances in Hollywood films in both comic and more series roles - and starred in the American TV series 'The Riches'. David Blanchflower is a former member of the Bank of England Monetary Policy Committee. He consistently voted to cut interest rates despite the high inflation at the time, and opposition from his colleagues on the MPC. Widely acknowledged as one of the best guitarists of all time, Mark Knopfler made his name as the lead guitarist, vocalist and songwriter for legendary rock band Dire Straits. Since the group split in 1995, he's kept himself busy producing albums, writing film scores and guest-performing with the likes of Bob Dylan and Eric Clapton. He's also carved out a successful solo career and he spoke to Simon about his new album "get lucky."

It's as arguably the most popular of the new-generation of Dr Whos, though, that many people will know him best.
