His latest is the epic 22 Dreams, which like a lot of his releases went to No. 1 in the UK this year. He's influenced many musicians, and has been a music fan all his life. Mark Rae is best known for his work with Steve Christian. As Rae & Christian they started together in the mid-90s and made a classic debut called Northern Sulphuric Soul (1998) which blended UK soul and hip hop. Rae's latest project is Yes King and it features several London MC's, as well as Jamaican reggae acts that he travelled to record. He talks about the hairy experiences of recording in the Carribean, plus why he left his home in Manchester to now live in Hollywood. Interview by Vijay...

One of the finds of 2008 for triple j has been this Swedish electronic artist. Essentially a one man band, Johan T. Karlsson writes, plays and produces all the music as Familjen. He's had huge success in Scandinavia with his debut album and it's lead single "Det Snurrar I Min Skalle" ("It's Spinning In My Head"). Richard Kingsmill spoke to Johan a couple of months prior to him travelling to Australia for the Parklife Festivals.
